Hello Dear Reader!
Welcome to another book review, which is about a book written by one of my favorite authors, Eoin Colfer. The Fowl Twins Get What They Deserve is, to my knowledge, the last installment of The Fowl Twins series, and while it isn’t the best book in the series in my humble opinion, the ending did bring a great deal of nostalgia. Let’s just say it really came full circle with the Artemis Fowl series.
But anyway! Before I get into that, here is the back-cover summary: (from Goodreads)
For almost two years, Lord Teddy Bleedham-Drye, the Duke of Scilly, has been plotting revenge against the Fowl Twins, who humiliated him in Book One. Teddy plans to give them exactly what they deserve: permanent death.
He threatens Myles with his weaponized jet and Beckett and Specialist Lazuli succeed in disarming the aircraft and causing an accident that kills the duke. But does it really?
Ghosts, clones, and fairy magic come to play in this ultimate and ridiculous showdown between the twins and their worst enemy.
End synopsis! Now, let’s get into the review!
With this being the third book of the series, I’ve grown really fond of the Fowl twins and their polar-opposite personalities. Becket is as sunny as a ray of sunshine as always and as physically fit as a superhuman, always seeing the positive in things. Myles is his usual intelligent, egotistical self, believing he is the genius of all geniuses, but he does have a good loving heart… deep, deep down. It just takes a bit to get it out of him. Unfortunately, not much screen time is given to main fairy Lazuli Heitz, but she’s as level-headed and simultaneously full of spunk as ever, and being able to explore more of her past was an absolute joy. These three are as close as ever even though they spend much of their time in the book apart, and it’s so clear to me that they genuinely care about each other. Yes, even Myles.
Lord Teddy Bleedham-Drye returns as the main villain of this book, and he makes quite a formidable one, coming close to killing the twins on multiple occasions. This man is full of determination to get what he wants, and one of those things is exacting his revenge on Myles, Becket, Lazuli, and toy troll Whistle Blower. The combination of his intellect and highly advanced technology makes him a very dangerous man.
Eoin Colfer’s style of writing does it again for me, making me laugh and making the jumps between every character perspective barely noticeable. As usual, his tangents were a joy to read, making it seem like he really was there telling the story to me. This time around, things felt a bit too spread out, especially in the case of Lazuli, but as always, he brings everything back around full circle and ties up the loose ends he leaves hanging in the wind throughout the book.
Though this book isn’t my personal favorite of the three Fowl Twins novels, the ending really did it for me. The ending brought back a sense of nostalgia I hadn’t felt since reading the first novel, and it really did bring things back full circle to the Artemis Fowl series. Not in a way that I expected, but in a way that left me feeling very satisfied and content with the ending. It really touched my heart.
So, The Fowl Twins Get What They Deserve rating:
4.5/5 and left feeling both satisfied and wanting more! I hope there will be more Fowl content upcoming, but for now, I’m very happy with the ending of the third Fowl Twins installment.
