Hello Dear Reader!
I’ve got another wonderful poetry book by the one and only craig Randall, who has an Instagram account @craigrandallwriting on Instagram so be sure to check him out if you love encouraging and uplifting content!
Rain Songs is the sequel poetry collection of Among the Wildflowers, and it continues Craig’s personal healing journey. This time, there is the theme of change, unwanted change to be specific, as these poems were written during the time of the pandemic. It reflects on dealing and handling the change and staying rooted in looking to tomorrow instead of dwelling on the bad. But before I get into that, here is the back-cover summary (from Goodreads):
This is the third installment in one poet’s healing journey. With hope found and constructive thought patterns forming, Rain Songs grapples with continuing to find hope amidst a global pandemic, social unrest, and massive cultural divides. Can one still find peace, even when the surrounding world has been upended? “Hope drinks deep.” – Craig Randall
On to the review!
The sections of this poetry book are themed around change and disruption, both found in nature, such as the seasons, and also in society, specifically during the harsher times of the pandemic. It’s most definitely a reflection of that time period, taking in the world in its different views, in the natural world, society, and also what I assume is his personal life. Just like his previous two poetry books, I found the collection to be relatable. These poems touched me, and the section titled You with Me was definitely my favorite. The poems in that section reminded me of my relationship with my boyfriend.
This book was is a continuation of the mission of the previous two, to provide people with hope that things will get better no matter the constant change. This provides a silent way to internalize and reflect on experiences, and if you like that, this book of poetry will definitely be for you!
So, Rain Songs rating:
5/5 and highly recommend for a refreshing read you can connect with!
Thanks for reading!
